There are no cars on Ilha Grande. No roads, no motor vehicles: that is the rule that has protected the island for decades. Car rental therefore only concerns the journey to the landing stages — and it has to be left in a car park for the duration of the stay.
The most flexible option: departures every hour from 8 am to 6 pm, and a crossing of 15 to 50 minutes depending on the boat. Reckon on 75 R$. Located between Mangaratiba and Angra.

Barcas Riobarcasrio.com.br→This is the normal way to get about. The waymarked network links the beaches and the villages; allow 3 hours to reach Lopes Mendes from Abraão. Closed shoes essential.
