Kerama Islands: a car is only useful on Tokashiki
On Zamami, Aka and Geruma, distances are short: the village bus, bikes, scooters and the Mitsushima boat are enough to reach beaches and viewpoints. A car is only really useful on Tokashiki, the largest island, to get to Tokashiku beach, which the bus does not serve. The Ferry Tokashiki carries vehicles from Naha. Drivers from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Monaco and Taiwan must show an official Japanese translation of their licence, while UK, US and most other drivers need an International Driving Permit (1949 Geneva Convention).

Near Zamami port, the Oceana hotel rents e-bikes and small two-seater electric vehicles, handy for reaching the island’s beaches and viewpoints. It has no longer rented cars since 31 October 2025.
