Plane or boat?
Finist'air's small plane takes barely 15 minutes and gives a spectacular view of the Iroise Sea, but seats are limited and flights depend on the weather. Penn ar Bed sails daily from Le Conquet all year, and also from Brest and, from April to September, from Camaret. From May to September, Finist'mer offers the shortest crossing, from Lanildut. Boats often call at Molène.
Entry formalities and arrival
UK travellers need a valid passport; under the EU Entry/Exit System, your details are recorded on arrival. At Le Stiff harbour, shuttles and bike-hire firms meet passengers for the 4 km trip to Lampaul. Visitors' cars are not recommended: explore by bike or on foot. See also our pages on car rental and where to stay on Ushant.
When to go and what it costs
From May to September the sea is calmer and there are more sailings. In winter, storms make the island spectacular, but crossings may be cancelled. Book the boat a few days ahead in summer, and the plane even earlier as seats are scarce.
