Where should I stay in Vanuatu on a first trip?
In Port Vila or beside one of Efateβs lagoons (Erakor, Mele, Eratap), then a few nights on Santo and Tanna if you are combining diving and the volcano.
Can you stay near Mount Yasur?
Yes: several family-run bungalows sit at the foot of the volcano, such as Jungle Oasis, and White Grass Ocean Resort organises trips from Tannaβs west coast.
Have hotels reopened since the 2024 earthquake?
Most have: the Grand Hotel reopened in March 2026, Tamanu and The Havannah in late 2025. Always check with the property before booking.
Do I need to bring cash?
Yes, outside Efate and Santo: there are no cash machines on Tanna or the outer islands.
