The Hong Kong Islands are a surprisingly wild playground: the Lantau Trail (70 km in 12 stages) crosses Lantau Peak (934 m) and Sunset Peak, Lamma can be crossed on foot in a morning, and the beaches of Cheung Sha, Pui O and Tung Wan are perfect for surfing, paddleboarding and windsurfing. Carry water and start early in summer, and skip sea trips when a typhoon signal is raised.
