The buggy is the island's vehicle, not the car. A single federal road crosses it — the BR-363, 7.5 km from the port to Sueste — and the rest is dirt track. Fuel is rationed and the station closes at 7 pm : fill up early in the day, not on the way back from the beach.
The local rental firm Locbuggy, in business since 2005, lists 420 R$/day for a Fyber or Fibravan buggy and 470 R$ for a four-seat Selvagem. Category B licence required, 24-hour assistance, vehicles allowed in every zone of the island.
